Amidst growing concern about mental health globally, the “World Mental Health Day” will observe today in the county as elsewhere of the globe.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has been observing the day since 1992 to create greater awareness among people. This year’s theme is “Living with Schizophrenia.”
President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate messages extended their whole-hearted support to the cause of the mentally sick and all programs of the day.
The president in his message said that the concept of health remains incomplete without an adequate understanding of mental health.
He also expressed concern at the increase in the number of the mentally ill people. But he hoped that advances in modern sciences were also making it easier to treat such diseases.
He appealed for greater comprehension of the problem which would lead to many of the afflicted returning to normal life.
The prime minster in her message said that a huge number of people are affected by mental diseases which reduce their efficiency and create social and personal problems.
