Indian reproduction specialist Dr Gautam Khastagir here on Friday underscored the need for eradicating the widespread misconception that women are responsible for infertility.
Rather, it is men who are responsible for at least 60 percent of infertility cases, he said while addressing a press conference on ‘Infertility Awareness’ organised by SSBCL Group, Bangladesh at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.
Dr Gautam, who is the director of the Bengal Infertility and Reproductive Therapy Hospital in Kolkata, claimed that at least 95 percent of the infertility cases can be resolved through regular treatment that can take two years at best.
The medications are, however, excessively costly and about 65-70 percent of the patients give up the treatment for this, he added. He also mentioned that most of the infertility problems are nothing serious but grows as an outcome of lack of overall knowledge among the people about conjugation.
He stressed the need for raising social awareness to remove the misconception about women being responsible for infertility.
