Boalkhali -Kalurghat Bridge Implementation Parishad of Chittagong handed over a memorandum to the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister office Abul Kalam Azad demanding construction of 3rd Karnaphuli bridge in Boalkhali-Kalurghat point on Saturday.
The Parishad leaders handed over this memo to the Principal secretary at Chittagong Circuit House on Saturday afternoon while on courtesy call on him . Principal Secretary to PM’s office came over Chittagong on official tour, sources said. The memorandum was told that the existing Kalurghat railway bridge was constructed in 1930 and was unveiled for all mode of transpsorts from 1958 .
After minimizing the train service on Dhohazari-ctg line in 1990 and damage of Shah Amanat bridge in 1991 by devastating cyclone in Chittagong , the pressures of increased public vehicles towards Bandarban, Coxsbazar highways goes on Kalurghat bridge and hence the bridge became tottering .
The leaders reiterated the assurances of the prime minister and the Railway Minister visited the proposed site of the said bridge in 2012 but no development yet to be sighted. Principal secretary assured them to present their memo to the MP after back in Dhaka. Convenor of the Parishad AbdulMomen, joint convenor Mustafa Naim, joint member secretary Alamgir Morshed Babu, Coordinator Sohel Uddin, Members Ranjit ghosh, Ranjit chowdhury Bachchu, Saiful Alam were present during courtesy call with the Principal secretary , sources said.
