Members of Bangladesh T20 Cricket team led by newly appointed Captain Shakib Al Hasan left Dhaka on Tuesday for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to take part in the Asia Cup.
Opener Anamul Haque Bijoy and right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed could not go to the UAE for complications of visa. A BCB source informed that Anumul Haque and Taskin Ahmed will go today at the UAE after ending their visa complications.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has included Mohammad Naim in the squad as wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan has been ruled out due to injury. Mohammad Naim joined the Bangladesh T20 Cricket team on the same day from West Indies.
After frustrating result in Zimbabwe, the BCB has changed its coaching staff. Head Coach Russell Domingo will act for Test and the One Day International. In absence of Domingo, Sridharan Sriram will act as Technical Consultant of Bangladesh Cricket team.
A total of six teams will compete in the Asia Cup, the most prestigious cricket competition of this continent. They are : Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and a qualifier team after playing in the qualifiers. The UAE, Hong Kong, Kuwait and Singapore are competing in the qualifiers.
The final round of Asia Cup will begin on August 27.
Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka have been billed in Group-B, while India, Pakistan and a qualifiers will be placed in Grooup-A.
Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan in their first Group-B match on September 30 and Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in their second Group-B on September 1.
Earlier, newly appointed Captain of Bangladesh T20 Cricket team Shakib Al Hasan said, ” It will be a tough task to play in the final. We shall try to play consistently and achieve a good result after showing a better brand of cricket.”
