Bangladeshi athlete M Mejbah Ahmed dreams of directly qualifying in the mega event like Olympics by virtue of his own capability and not with the ‘wild card’.
Mejbah already left here for Rio Olympics today as the lone male athlete for the athletics event.
While talking to BSS yesterday, Bangladesh’s fastest man Mejbah, hailing from Bagerhat, shared his dream and future plans.
Ace golfer Siddikur Rahman was the only athlete from Bangladesh to qualify directly in the Olympics. So far since 1984 all athletes have been participating based on wild card entry.
Mejbah, who has broken numerous records in local events, however says that in international events his timings are far below the par. He thinks that it is high time that someone from the athletic field qualifies directly in the Olympic athletic event.
He said: “This time I am going to gather experience participating with elite athletes like Usain Bolt. I want to come back and use my Rio experience and dream of qualifying directly into athletics event. I know it’s a wild dream but when you dream, you should dream big and that’s why I sincerely wish to use all my Rio experience and improve my timing as close to international timings so that I don’t have to wait for the wild card but participate directly in the event.”
“Since I am young, I believe I still have time to dream something big like participating directly in the Olympics and when I finally retire I would like to continue as athletics coach,” he added.
