BSS, Dhaka :
Young pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana has set his target to make him available for all formats of cricket by working hard and improving his skill as he doesn’t want to be a format-based cricketer only.
Rana shot into the limelight during the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which was dedicated to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to mark his birth centenary.
After taking 17 wickets in 10 matches, conceding just over 7 runs per over, many believed Rana instantly could make him available in T20 cricket. But while the popular belief is that he would be handy for the shortest format of the cricket, the 23-year old cricketer from Chandpur doesn’t want to make him a format-based cricketer only.
“Actually I’m working hard to make myself available for all formats of cricket-red ball or white ball cricket doesn’t matter,” he said, expressing his desire.
“Be it a red ball or a white ball, I want to make myself ready. It’s my goal for which I am working hard to improve my skill. I am working with my variation and swing.”
The young pacer has been on the radar of the national team selectors since the BPL. However, he hadn’t got any opportunity to play international matches yet. The Bangladesh cricket team will play a three-match Test series in Sri Lanka in October.
Rana said it will be a dream come true if he gets selected for the tour. Nevertheless, the pacer said that it was not the case that he had targeted the Sri Lanka series rather he is practicing with the goal of getting himself ready for any cricket.
“I am happy to play in any kind of cricket. It will be a dream come true if I get selected for the Test series but that’s not the only goal. If there is no opportunity here [for the Sri Lanka series], I am trying to be ready for the First class or any other game organized by BCB.”
Coronavirus has already happened much of the time. But Rana said he tried to use those times while sitting at home.
“There was no game in the lockdown, I did training as per the guideline of the board as much as I could do at home. Now I am working as hard as I can to get myself back on the field. And my fitness is now in a good stead by the grace of Allah, a few more sessions ahead and I think I will improve more. There was a big break after the BPL. After the break, I came back and I worked on bowling. I am working with the variation and swing be it in red ball or white ball. Everything is going well by the grace of Allah.”
The young pacer said that every cricketer has started returning to the previous rhythm through regular practice.
