Meghna erosion devours 7 houses in Narsingdi

Seven dwelling houses of Charmodhua village under Raipura upazila were devoured on Monday by sudden erosion of Meghna River.
The river erosion has taken serious turn as the water of the river has started rising caused by torrential rain in the areas on Sunday.
The erosion is also threatening about two kilometers riverbank creating panic among the people of the village. Raipura Upazila Parishad Chairman Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdul Motin today visited the erosion hit area .The erosion hit people have been shifted to safer places today.
The upazila chairman has distributed Tk 5,000 to each affected family of the village.
More than 200 dwelling houses and one primary school and one graveyard had been devoured by the mighty Meghna in Narsingdi district last year. Deputy Commissioner of the district Abu Hena Morshed Zaman directed the Water Development Board to take necessary measures to check the river erosion.
