Staff Reporter :The government has sent Joint-Secretary AKM Jahangir on forced retirement for meeting BNP Chief Khaleda Zia, breaching service rules.He was an officer on special duty (OSD).The public administration ministry in a gazette notification on Thursday said that the decision had been taken in the public interest. However, as the officer completed 25 years in the service, the notification added that he would enjoy all retirement benefits.According to sources, more than 50 public servants attended the meeting in the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office on December 4.They included a joint secretary, three deputy secretaries and a senior assistant secretary and some personal officers (PO) and administrative officers (AO).Secretariat sources said a few former secretaries, including an ex-cabinet secretary, who are under the government’s watch, led the group.As per the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1985, public servants cannot hold meetings with political leaders.
