The Bangladesh Newspaper Employees Federation and the Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers Executive Committee organised an emergency joint meeting on Monday at the federations temporary office in the city, says a press release on Monday.
The leaders of the both federations elaborately discussed the problems facing the press workers and the employees and for resolving those placed 10 points. They also warned the government of federations’ grand rally on September 10 in case of their failure to implement by September 9.
The points include formation of 9th Wage Board, payment of arrear salary and allowances to the terminated press workers and employees, allocation of a piece of land for erecting a permanent office, restoration of Newspaper Act 1974, stopping of harassing and terminating press workers and employees, giving of right to Trade Union, drafting of policy framework for newspaper industry, giving of equal rights to all journalists, press workers and employees, and formation of destitute welfare trust for press workers and employees.
The meeting demanded also rescinding of ICT Article 57.
Md. Matiur Rahman Talukder, President of Bangladesh Newspaper Employees Federation, presided over the meeting moderated by Md. Alamgir Hossain Khan, President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers.
