Professor Dr. Meerjadi Sabrina Flora, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of the Health Services (DGHS) is on life support in a Singapore Hospital.
Dr. Flora is suffering from severe lung, kidney and some other complexities, DGHS sources said.
“She has fallen ill severerly and taken to life support in Singapore’s National University Hospital now. Her condition deteriorated after
undergoing an operation and Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure recently,” said Dr. ASM Alamgir, former Chief Scientific Officer of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Professor Dr. Nazmul Islam, spokesperson of the DGHS also confirmed the matter.
Dr. Sabrina Flora, became familiar for her regular presence before the media during the first wave of the Covid pandemic.
Then she became the head of the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19. She was the Director of the IEDCR then.
Later, on August 13, 2020, she was promoted to the post of Additional Director General of the DGHS.
Dr Flora obtained her MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College. After that she went on to work at the Bangladesh Medical Research Council and the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine.
Dr. Flora has a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
