Meena Day to be observed tomorrow

The department of primary education will observe ‘Meena Day’ on Saturday (October 10) with a view to implementing government’s pledge to ensure 100 percent enrolment of children in schools and preventing school dropouts.
Marking the occasion, the department of primary education will organize a function at LGED auditorium at Agargaon in the city on Saturday.
Minister for Primary and Mass Education M Mostafizur Rahman will attend the function chief guest, said an official release on Thursday.
The day’s programme will include Meena cartoon show and a discussion meeting on related issues. Lawmaker and singer Mamtaz Begum, cricketer Sakib Al Hassan and Salma Khatun will take part in the discussion.
Besides, children will perform at a Meena related cultural function. The function will also include a puppet show and distribution of awards.
Government and non-government organizations have been observing ‘Meena Day’ since 1998.
Though the day was observed on October 28 every year, it was not possible this year because of Eid holidays. So, the day is being observed on October 10 this year.
Meena is popular as a cartoon character because it is vocal to establish rights of girl children.
