The BNP on Monday alleged that the health report of its imprisoned Chairperson Khaleda Zia has reflected the government’s desires.
“The statement of the medical board about our chairperson’s illness is nothing but government manufactured documents. It aims to push Khaleda Zia towards a serious health risk. It’s clearly self-contradictory and reflected the government’s thoughts,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi while addressing a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan central office.
“We strongly condemn and protest the government’s such cruel approach,” Rizvi said.
The government formed medical board on Sunday submitted its report suggesting taking Khaleda Zia to such a hospital which is run by specialized doctors for her better treatment. The board also said the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) may be better for her medical treatment.
The five-member board also said Khaleda Zia’s physical condition is not under any danger at present.
The medical board examined Khaleda’s health condition on Saturday inside Old Dhaka Central Jail.
Rizvi alleged that the medical team, which was formed with pro-government doctors, conducted a ‘so-called 20-minute health examination of the BNP chief, and recommended admitting her to the BSMMU.
He alleged that Khaleda Zia’s personal physicians were not kept in the medical board only to make such a recommendation.
Rizvi said, “The BSMMU hospital has lacks of modern and sophisticated equipment for conducting tests like MRI and CT Scans. These machines are available in the specialised hospitals.”
The BNP leader urged the government to include Khaleda Zia’s personal physicians in the medical board and take immediate steps for ensuring her proper treatment in United Hospital or any other specialised hospital.
