The medical board formed with expert physicians has checked BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s health condition in the old Dhaka central jail on Saturday.
The five-member board will send prescription on Sunday through the jail authority.
The board formed with the physicians from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) entered erstwhile Dhaka Central Jail on the Nazimuddin Road at 3:45pm. The doctors left the jail after one hour and five minutes.
The members of the medical board did not say anything to the journalists waiting at the jail gate.
Later, Mahbubul Islam, Superintendent of Dhaka Jail, told the journalists that the medical board had examined Khaleda Zia’s health condition for 20 minutes. They would give prescription on Sunday.
The board members are internal medicine department Professor Abdul Jalil Chowdhury, Harisul Hoque of Cardiology, Abu Zafar Chowdhury Biru of Orthopaedic Surgery, Tarik Reza Ali of Ophthalmology and Barunnesa Ahmed of Physical Medicine.
The medical board had been formed upon request made by a BNP delegation led by its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir who called on Home Minister Asaduzzman Khan Kamal on September 10.
The BNP team at the same time requested for treatment of Khaleda Zia at any specialised hospital of her choice.
The same day, Khaleda’s lawyers filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directive on her treatment at a specialised hospital.
