Media urged to create awareness for climate change adaptation

Experts at a training workshop today urged the media workers for creating adequate social awareness to reduce risks of natural disasters through adaptation with adverse impacts of climate change.
They were addressing inaugural ceremony of the two-day training workshop on ‘Reduction of Disaster Risks and Climate Change Adaptation’ at Rangpur Circuit House with Rangpur Press Club President AKM Fazlul Haque in the chair.
The Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) with assistance of Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP) Phase-II of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has been organising the workshop under the ‘Strengthening the Role of Media Towards Complementing the Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation’ project.
The CDMP, Government of Bangladesh, UKaid, European Union, Norwegian Embassy, Sweden, Australian Aid and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have been extending assistance in arranging the workshop.
Deputy Commissioner attended as the chief guest and thirty-eight Rangpur-based journalists working in the print, electronic and online media have been taking part in the workshop.
General Secretary of Rangpur Press Club Wadud Ali delivered welcome speech and Assistant Trainer of the Education and Training Department of PIB Tania Pervin spoke in the beginning.
Communication Specialist of CDMP Phase-II Monjur Ahmed narrated objectives of the workshop and massive initiatives taken and being implemented by the government in 40 districts, including training programmes in 20 districts, towards the directions.
