Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said government has strengthened the media and enacted different laws to establish a corruption free society in the country.
“Now, the country is being turned into “Digital Bangladesh” and the administrative system is being made more transparent with the initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. . .So the strengthened media and tools of information and communication technology could stop corruption,” he added.
The minister said this on Tuesday while addressing the closing ceremony of Orientation Training as the chief guest. Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) organized the training
for a group of journalists on Public Procurement at its auditorium. IMED Secretary Shahid Ullah Khandaker, CPTU director general M Faruque Hossain and World Bank lead procurement specialist Zafrul Islam spoke on the occasion as special guests. PIB director general Shah Alamgir gave welcome speech while Chairman of PIB Management Board Golam Sarwar presided over the programme.
Mentioning the formulation and enactment of different laws by the present government, Inu said the government couldn’t implement the laws to thwart corruption without the support of media.
He urged journalists for taking help of the laws and acts before publishing any kind of report on corruption.
“The journalists could dig out information relating to corruption and misuse of public funds properly by taking help of public procurement rules and right to information act,” opined the minister. Inu said in the regime of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, it’s very hard to enjoy lavish life earning money through corruption. “ACC and other organizations have been strengthened properly. So, if any complaint of corruption is submitted accurately there is no scope to escape punishment,” he added.
The information minister said politician, bureaucrat and businessman by putting hands together are creating the platform for corruption. He urged the media to expose these men to the people, who are behind corruption, as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said she has no relatives except his family members.
Inu told journalists the government is not scared of criticism, but is afraid of baseless report.
Later, the minister handed-over certificates to the participants.
