‘Media role vital to expedite family welfare services’

Speakers at a function stressed the need for responsible role of media for reaching the services of family welfare, maternal-infant and adolescent health on the doorsteps of the people.
The observation came in an advocacy meeting held at the conference hall of Babies and Maternal Care Clinic in Rajshahi yesterday. Department of Family Planning (DFP) organised the event to mark the opening of ‘Family Planning, Mother-Infant-Juvenile Health Service and Campaign Week-2017’.
It is supposed to be observed in all unions, upazilas and districts simultaneously from December 30 to 4th January, 2018. Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Aminul Islam and Divisional Director of DFP Malay Kumar Roy addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with its Deputy Director Dr Nasim Akhter in the chair. Deputy Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif spoke as resource persons. The discussants observed that collective efforts of all government and non-government organisations is very crucial to make all the fertile couples conscious about family planning.
Highlighting the necessity of expediting the village-level family planning activities, the speakers underlined the need for giving top priority to motivate the fertile couples so that they could control their unwanted pregnancy through using contraceptives.
Antenatal care and institutional delivery are considered as the effective means of preventing various types of high risk factors like pre-eclampsia, post-eclampsia, ante-partum hemorrhage, post-partum hemorrhage and obstructed labor.
Aminul Islam said there is no way to create public awareness about family planning and that is very important to attain the cherished goal. Role of media is vital in this regard.
