Media role in preventing corruption lauded

Anti-corruption activists at a views-sharing meeting lauded the mass media in unveiling corruption alongside with forwarding suggestions in preventing the curse from the society. District Corruption Prevention Committee (CPC), Rangpur organised the meeting with local journalists of the print and electronic media at the Training Centre of RDRS Bangladesh, Rangpur yesterday.
District Combined Office of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and RDRS Bangladesh under the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) – funded Justice Reform and Corruption Prevention Project extended assistance in arranging the event.
With Vice-resident of district CPC Rezaul Islam Shuja in the chair, Deputy Director of District Combined Office of ACC Mozahar Ali Sarder attended the meeting as the chief guest.
General Secretary of district CPC Akbar Hossain narrated the corruption prevention activities being conducted in the district and sought more cooperation of the media persons in combating the menace to build a corruption free society.
Taking part in the open discussion, the media persons narrated about the corruption situation prevailing in different service providing government offices and forwarded suggestions to prevent those for greater national interests.
The chief guest disclosed the latest information on the number of corruption-related cases filed so far and arrested persons in those connections from all four districts under Rangpur District Combined Office of ACC. He called upon the journalists for working as a team and filing more news reports unveiling corruption to assist the ACC in starting of investigation processes and filing cases for eradicating corruption from every sphere of the society.
In his concluding speech, Rezaul Islam Shuja highly lauded the role of journalists in unveiling corruption as well as creating mass public awareness to mobilise social forces in launching an effective movement to prevent corruption.
