State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has ruled out any vacillation in acting against three RAB officers accused of killing seven people including a councillor at Narayanganj.
“There is no dithering, no vacillation. We will implement the High Court order. Since the legal process is being followed to the letter, it is taking some time,” Kamal told reporters after a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
The state minister alleged some media had ‘misquoted’ him. “I have not said that the three officers would surrender to the court on Wednesday.
“I said that we had finished our bit. They have no
other option but to surrender in the court or appeal. So they can either surrender or appeal. I have not said that they would do that.”
Speaking to two TV stations on Tuesday night Kamal had said the three former RAB-11 officers might surrender to the court on Wednesday.
The High Court on Sunday ordered arrest of the former RAB officers, who allegedly abducted and murdered seven people in Narayanganj.
The junior minister spoke to Somoy TV and NTV two days after the order was issued. Regarding the order, Kamal was heard saying, “After receiving it, the home ministry has sent the High Court’s order to the IO (investigation officer of the case) in Narayanganj, the place of the crime.
“The IO sent it to the Police Headquarters. Then it was sent to the defence ministry.”
“The matter is under process.” “We are waiting for them (MoD) to act. We can’t do anything else.
“Either they will surrender in court or appeal if they have something to say as a writ has been filed. There is nothing else to do,” he said.
