Mechanisation of agriculture for increasing production stressed

Agriculture experts have stressed on speeding up farm activities through mechanisation of agriculture to make it more profitable and reduce labour-shortage and production cost to increase crop yields.
They were addressing a farmers’ field day arranged for exhibition of “Reaper (Rice and Wheat) Harvester Machine” by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in village Banshgara under Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon district on Tuesday afternoon.
The occasion was arranged for introducing the Reaper Machine and disseminating its usage technologies among the farmers for harvesting rice and wheat quickly and easily at the lowest costs to get more benefits saving both time and expenditures.
A large number of farmers of the area attended the gathering and witnessed Boro rice harvest on five decimals of land of a farmer there in presence of the officials and experts of the DAE, local public representatives, civil society members, journalists and elite.
With Pirganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Abul Kalam Azad in the chair, Pirganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Mohammad Ziaul Islam Zia addressed the occasion as the chief guest.
Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer ABM Iftekharul Islam Khondker, Sub-assistant Agriculture Officer Joynal Abedin and Joint Secretary of Pirganj Press Club Mokaddes Hayat Milan also addressed the event as special guests.
In his welcome speech, Abul Kalam Azad narrated benefits of using the Reaper Machine that can complete harvest of rice of wheat on one hectare land just in one-hour time.
While addressing the gathering, the experts said that the farmers can harvest and clean Boro rice or wheat of one hectare land per hour using the Reaper Machine at minimum fifty per cent reduced cost in quicker time.
A farmer requires maximum Taka 3,000 on an average, which is 50 per cent less than the cost of Taka 6,000 in harvesting and cleaning Boro rice of one acre land by engaging labourers in traditional methods, they said.
After witnessing mechanised harvesting of Boro rice using the Reaper Machine, the farmers including members of local Integrated Crop Management Clubs expressed their keen eagerness in using the same for rice and wheat harvesting purpose.
