Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday said Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) system in the public examinations is likely to be removed in order to resist obtaining marks in an immoral way.
“Besides, we will not prepare the list of the top 20 educational institutions under each board in any public examination from next year to stop malpractice by educational institution throughout the country,” he told journalists while announcing the results in a press briefing at his office secretariat in city.
He said it is very easy for a student to obtain 40 marks of MCQ question through malpractice.
The Education Minister said, they have evidence and information that a section of teachers are involved with committing such malpractice before start of the examinations in order to remain within top 20.
“A section of teachers are engaged in sending the sealed questions to the examinees just before beginning of the public examinations. As a result, the examinees can easily obtain 40 marks from MCQ questions,” Nurul Islam Nahid said.
However, he said that after discussion with academics and concerned officials, decision would be taken whether MCQ system would be scratched or not.
He said that stern action would be taken against the educational institutions and teachers involved with malpractice in the public examinations.
“Malpractice committed by a section of teachers in the public examinations, earn bad reputation for the whole teachers community,” the Education Minister said.
He said that the government would want that all educational institutions to secure good results.
“We will recognise the best school in an alternative manner. We will not make list of the top 20 schools. The spirit of the education is obstructed if we make such lists,” Nurul Islam Nahid said.
Replying to a query about the fall of pass rate, he said that the pass rate fell due to non-stop blockade and hartal programmes enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
