The Mercantile Bank Limited (MBL) at a ceremony here on Sunday afternoon distributed cheques of Taka 4.23 lakh as education stipends among 33 meritorious students of the poorer section families.
The stipend is being distributed allover the country to encourage and inspire the meritorious students in continuing their studies under the Abdul Jalil Education Stipend Project as a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of the bank.
Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Shakhawat Hossain attended the ceremony at MBL office in the city and distributed the cheques and certificates among the meritorious students as the chief guest.
Panel Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation Abul Kashem and President of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu attained and addressed the ceremony as the special guests.
The stipend recipient meritorious students of different educational institutions, their guardians, teachers, bank officials, chamber leaders, civil society members, journalists and local elite were present.
The first Vice-president of MBL and its Rangpur Branch Chief Abdul Matin presided over with the education stipend distribution ceremony arranged at its office in the city.
The chief guest distributed cheques of Taka 9,000 among each of the 11 junior school level students, Taka 12,000 among each of the 12 secondary school level students and Taka 18,000 were distributed among each of the 10 higher secondary level students.
