Staff Reporter :Police on Wednesday detained the medical college admission seekers who were staging demonstrations at Shahbagh demanding cancellation of this year’s allegedly rigged medical college admission test.The students gathered at the TSC square and started moving towards the Shahbagh intersection in a procession.But the moment the procession went past the national museum, police attacked them and began beating with rifles. Sixteen students were picked up from the spot. The other students, who moved to Shahbagh intersection, were also taken to police station.At a press conference in front of the Central Shaheed Minar, the students demanded unconditional release of the 16 students who are still held by police. They also accused the police of launching an unprovoked attack on them.The protesters said that they would gather in front of the Central Shaheed Minar for another rally today (Thursday), and called upon the people of all walks of life to join them.However, Shahbagh police station OC Abu Bakar Siddique said: “When the protesters took position in front of the medical college, we stopped them from blocking the path. There were no clashes between us and them.”
