Chattogram Bureau :
City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said that in order to carry out any development work in the city, coordination has to be made with CCC. The mega project implementing agency has informed that the works which have already been completed in 18 canals should be made fully suitable for water movement.
The main causes of natural disasters in the city are illegal cutting of hills and dumping of waste in canals and drains. It is to be noted that if the Karnafuli river continues to fill up, the port of Chittagong will become completely impassable. The closure of Chittagong port means that the whole of Bangladesh has become unusable. Therefore, it is time to take precautionary measures in this regard from now on.
He was speaking at a meeting to review the city’s progress on water logging in the conference room of the CCC office at Tiger Pass on Sunday.
Moderated by CCC Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Shahidul Alam, the meeting was spoken among others, CCC Secretary Khaled Mahmud, Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam Manik, CDA Secretary Anwar Pasha, Chief Engineer Kazi Hasan bin Shams, senior hydrographer of the port Nasir Uddin, Deputy Commissioner’s Representative Raihan Mahbub and Deputy Director of Environment Department Mia Mahmudul Haque.
