A court here on Tuesday cleared Comilla City Corporation Mayor Monirul Haque Sakku of graft charges in connection with a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Following a petition filed by Sakku’s counsel Masud Ahmed Talukder, Judge of Dhaka’s Special Court-8 Shamim Ahmed passed the order saying there was no element to frame charges against him.
Earlier on May 5, Sakku got permanent bail in the graft. On April 18, a Dhaka court issued a warrant of his arrest. On May 7, 2008, Shahin Ara Mamtaz, assistant director of ACC, filed the case against Sakku and his wife Afroza Jesmin for concealing information of wealth worth Tk 12.50 crore and amassing wealth of Tk 4.57 crore illegally. On February 4, 2016, the ACC submitted a charge-sheet against the mayor dropping the name of his wife.
