Mayor of CCC AJM Nasir Uddin announced the naming of the newly constructed modern swimming complex at Outer Stadium adjacent to the city’s MA Aziz Stadium as Sheikh Russell swimming Complex yesterday .
The mayor made the announcement at the inauguration of an age-based swimming competition organized by the Chittagong Jila Krira Sanstha (CJKS) under the management of Bangladesh Swimming Federation .
He said swimming at the Outer Stadium has been overcome by overcoming obstacles. Administrative process will be initiated in a timely manner.
He said that for the first time in the country this swimming competition is being held under the name of Sheikh Russell. We feel blessed to have organized this competition in Chittagong. With the help of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s generosity, youth and sports ministry, the swimming complex could be built. The swimming complex, built at a cost of Tk 5.5 million, has now become the address of the dream of becoming a swimmer of Chittagong. Swimming is a must practice for becoming a national and international athlete.
On September 8, the swimming complex was inaugurated by the Minister of Youth and Sports. Zahid Ahsan Russell. Construction of the first international standard swimming complex of Chittagong began on March 27 at a cost of Tk.11.5 crore The swimming complex comprises a 50-meter-long, 22-meter-wide, 1.8 -meter- deep-water swimming pool.
