Mayar Jonjal, Chondraboti Kotha awarded at Rainbow Film Festival in London

Aupee Karim starrer movie Mayar Jonjal (Debris of Desire) won the Best Picture award at the 23rd Rainbow Film Festival in London. The news was confirmed through the festival’s official website yesterday.
The festival kicked off on May 29 and was inaugurated by Rushanara Ali, the first Bengali MP from UK. The ceremonies came to an end on June 5, said a press release.
Director N Rashed Chowdhury’s movie Chondraboti Kotha also received a special Rainbow Film Society Mention. The festival also screened various Bangladeshi movies along with Asian movies in different categories at this year’s event.
Chinese movie Yangzhen’s Journey was awarded the Best Film on Humanity while Indian movie Bhoka received a COVID special mention. Sri Lanka’s Sarath Kothalawala and Kumara Thirimadura jointly won the Best director award for The Newspaper. Indranil Roy Chowdhury directorial Mayar Jonjal (Debris of Desire) was premiered at the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in January. It was the only selected project in the Asian cinema category of the festival. The movie also won the Best South Asian Feature Film award in the Arthouse Asia Film Festival last year.
Mayar Jonjal marks the comeback of renowned actress Aupee Karim on the silver screen after almost 15 years. The movie also stars Indian actor Ritwick Chakraborty and Shohel Rana in pivotal roles.
