Math Olympiad helps flourish students’ latent talents

Speakers regarded Mathematics Olympiad as a vital means of flourishing latent talents of students as the competition enable them to enrich their confidence.
So, there is need for arranging more math Olympiads for the students to groom themselves as skilled persons, they said. Government and non-governmental development organizations concerned should come forward and take initiative to this end, they added.
The observations came in the opening ceremony of regional unit of 8th National Math Olympiad-2016 held recently in Rajshahi University (RU).
More than 160 students from different universities and colleges in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions participated in the Olympiad organized by Department of Mathematics.
RU Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan and Treasurer Prof Sayen Uddin addressed the session as chief and special guests respectively with Convener of Math Olympiad Prof Wazed Ali Pramanik in the chair.
UGC Professor Anwar Hossain, Chairman of Department of Mathematics of RUET Prof Abdul Alim, RU Controller of Examinations Prof Asabul Haque and Proctor Prof Mujibul Haque Khan also spoke.
Pro-VC Prof Sarwar Jahan said the world is moving forward keeping pace with the advancement of science.
The Math Olympiad would help explore latent talents of students and take Bangladesh ahead.
In the closing session, ten participating students were awarded for their brilliant performance.
