Staff Reporter :Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday along with law enforcing agencies in separate drives arrested six persons, including a former Jubo Dal leader of Rajshahi, who allegedly masterminded the murder of Rajshahi University (RU) teacher AKM Shafiul Islam. They were arrested from Rajshahi, Dhaka, Gazipur and Bogra districts on Saturday night, RAB officials said.The arrested persons have been identified as alleged prime accused Ariful Islam Manik, who is the Organising Secretary of Katakhali Municipal of Jubo Dal unit, and Pintu, Babu, Mamun, Kalu and Sabuj, all are the Juba Dal activists of the municipality, they said.Quoting the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Deputy Commissioner AKM Nahidul Islam, the elite force Assistant Director (Legal and Media Wing) Maksudul Alam said the six persons were arrested in a combined night-long drives in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Bogra and Gazipur districts.Legal actions would be taken against the arrested persons, the RAB official said.Police also detained a local college principal along with 19 others over the killing case on November 16. Later, Rajshahi police showed 11 people arrested in the murder case filed in connection with the killing on November 17, he said. A Facebook page, apparently representing an unknown militant group, has claimed responsibility for the murder, sources said.Professor Shafiul Islam was hacked to death outside his house in the Chauddapai area of Rajshahi city on November 15.
