M.A. Awal, Narsingdi :Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive plan to cultivate winter vegetables in the six upazilas of Narsingdi district during the current season.DAE sources said, a total of 10275 hectares of land would be brought under this cultivation programme with the producion target 165000 tons of vegetables this year. The upazila wise cultivation target are 1000 hectares of land would be cultivated in Sadar upazila, 1075 hectares in polash upazila, 2000 hectares in shibpur upazila, 2500 hectares in Belabo upazila , 650 hectars in Monohardi upazila and 3050 hectares in Raipura upazila.Deputy Director DAE Narsingdi Latafut Hossain said The New Nation the department encouraged the farmers to cultivate poison free vegetables and given them knowledge on the bad effect of using pesticides and chemical fertilizers on vegetables fields and also given them training on pest management,. He said the DAE has set a target to cultivate poison free vegetables on 1200 hectares of land in the district. The farmers are now producing poison free vegetables using compost instead of chemical fertilizers and poisonous pesticides. Various kinds of winter vegtables like pumking, Bean, brinjil, lal-shak, palongsak, tomato, potato, couliflower, data shak, kokral, koida, cucumber, jingha, ladics finger, cabbage, grow plenty in all the six upazila of the district.
