Sylhet Super Stars recorded a massive nine-wicket victory over Barisal Bulls in their Twenty20 cricket match of the 3rd Bangladesh Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.
Chasing Barisal’s meager total of 58 off 16 overs, Sylhet Super Stars reached the winning spot in 11.2 overs making 62 for the loss of one wicket.
Sylhet Super Stars made a poor start as opener EMDY Munaweera (0) was caught at the mid-on by Sajedul Islam off Mohammad Sami when Sylhet’s score was just o.
Later, Junaid Siddique and Nurul Hasan rescued their team and coasted home contributing together 62 runs for the unbroken second wicket stand.
Junaid Siddique remained undefeated with 34. His 37-ball innings was belted with six fours. Junaid was adjudged the Man of the Match for his superb innings.
Nurul Hasan remained unbeaten with 23. His 26-ball knock was studded with two fours.
Earlier, Mohammad Sami and Ewin Lewis were the two Barisal’s batmen who could reach double-digit figures.
Mohammad Sami made 16 while Ewin Lewis scored 12.
Ravi Bopara, Shahid Afridi, Rubel Hossain and Mohammad Shahid played the key role in demolishing Barisal’s innings.
Ravi Bopara grabbed three wickets at the cost of 12 runs while Shahid Afridi, Rubel Hossain and Mohammad Shahid bagged a couple of wickets each for five, six and 23 runs respectively.
Ace batsman Chris Gayle of Barisal Bulls failed to show any gimmick in his first arrival in the 3rd Bangladesh Premier League as Gayle (8), the opener of Barisal was caught at the long-on by Nazmul Hossain Milon off Mohammad Shahid when Barisal’s total 21 for the loss of two wickets.
Earlier, Ewin Lewis the other opener of Barisal was caught at the mid-on by Abdur Razzak off Sohail Tanvir when Barisal’s score was 15 for the loss of one wicket.
One-down Rony Talukdar (3) was caught & bowled by Rubel Hossain when Barisal’s score was 24 for the loss of three wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad (2) was caught at the mid-on by Sohail Tanvir off Rubel Hossain when Barisal’s total was 27 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Sabbir Rahman (3) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim of Ravi Bopara when Barisal’s score was 34 for the loss of five wickets.
Seekkuge Prasanna (2) was bowled out by Ravi Bopara when Barisal’s total was 36 for the loss of six wickets.
Mehedi Maruf (4) was caught by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Ravi Bopara when Barisal’s score was 37 for the loss of seven wickets.
Then Shahid Afridi dismissed Taijul Islam (2) when Barisal’s total was 46 for the loss of eight wickets.
Sajedul Islam (1) was trapped leg before wicket by Shahid Afridi when Barisal’s score was 50 for the loss of nine wickets.
After dismissal of Sajedul Islam, Mohammad Sami was caught at the long-on by Rubel Hossain off Mohammad Shahid when Barisal’s innings came to an end.
