Rangpur Riders recorded a massive 69-run victory over Dhaka Dynamites in their Twenty20 match of the 3rd Bangladesh Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.
Winning in the coin session, Rangpur Riders chose to bat first and piled up a healthy total of 176 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then they bundled out Dhaka Dynamites for 107 off 19.4 overs.
Rangpur Riders made a modest start scoring 38 in the opening stand before Soumya Sarkar (18) was caught at the cover by Mosaddek Hossain off Mustafizur Rahman.
Then Lendl Simmons and Mohammad Mithun contributed together 56 runs for the second wicket stand before Simmons was caught at the cover by Farhad Reza off Mosharraf Hossain when Rangpur’s total was 94 for the loss of two wickets.
Simmons hit his team’s highest of 51. His 39-ball sparkle innings was studded with three sixes and five fours.
After dismissal of Simmons, Mohammad Mithun and Thisara Perera contributed together 28 runs before Mohammad Mithun was trapped leg before wicket by Abul Hasan when Rangpur’s score was 122 for the loss of three wickets.
Mithun made a polished 34 from 22 balls featuring three fours and two sixes.
After departure of Mithun, Rangpur’s batsmen failed to build any notable partnership.
Thisara Perera hit a worthy 27 from 20 balls with two fours and two sixes before he was caught at the cover by Nasir Jamshed off Mustafizur Rahman when Rangpur’s total was 142 for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan remained unbeaten with 24. His 15-ball knock was laced with three fours.
Yasir Shah and Mustafizur Rahman bagged a pair of wickets each for 24 and 38 runs respectively.
Later, Kumar Sangakkara was the only batsman of Dhaka Dynamites who shone with the willow. He scored 29 from 28 balls including three fours.
Dhaka Dynamites batsmen failed to resist the formidable bowling attack of Rangpur Riders.
Shakib Al Hasan played the key role in demolishing Dhaha’s innings claiming four wickets at the cost of 16 runs with a good support from Thisara Perera, who captured three wickets instead of 25 runs and Arafat Sunny, who bagged two wickets for 15 runs.
Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
