Rajshahi Royals registered a massive eight-wicket victory over Chattogram Challengers in their Twenty20 cricket match of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday.
Rajshahi Royals and Chattogram Challengers secured 16 points each from their respective 12 matches.
Chasing Chattogram’s total of 155 for the loss of five wickets in the 20 overs, Rajshahi Royals sailed home making 156 for the loss of two wickets when they had 14 balls to spare.
Rajshahi Royals had a superb start as openers Liton Das and Afif Hossain put on together 88 runs in the opening stand before Afif Hossain was caught by Chadwick Walton off Nasum Ahmed.
Liton Das hammered a stormy 75. His 48-ball innings was ornamented with 11 fours and a sixer. Liton Das was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding innings.
After Affif’s dismissal, Liton Das and Shoaib Malik contributed together 50 runs for the second wicket partnership before Liton Das was trapped leg before wicket by Ziaur Rahman when Rajshahi’s total was 138 for the loss of two wickets.
Shoaib Malik remained unbeaten with 43. His 25-ball innings was belted with two sixes and three fours.
Afif Hossain hit a fine 32 from 31 balls featuring one four and one six.
After Liton’s departure, Shoaib Malik and Andre Russell guided their team to reach the winning spot.
Ziaur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed of Chattogram Challengers took one wicket each conceding 17 and 33 runs respectively.
Earlier, Chattogram Challengers made a good start as openers Chris Gayle and Junaid Siddique put up together 38 runs in the opening stand.
Later, Mahmudullah Riyad and Nurul Hasan contributed together 38 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Nurul Hasan was caught by Ravi Bopara off Mohammad Irfan when Chattogram’s score was 131 for the loss of five wickets.
Mahmudullah remained unbeaten with 48. His 33-ball captain’s knock saw three sixes and two fours.
Nurul Hasan made 38 from 17 balls with four fours and a sixer.
Chris Gayle and Junaid Siddique added 23 runs each to the Chattogram total.
Shoaib Malik, Abu Jayed, Afif Hossain, Taijul Islam and Mohammad Irfan picked up one wicket each for 11, 12, 18, 20 and 24 runs respectively.
