Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal underscored the need for bringing massive reforms in the existing education system to meet the demand of industrial revolution for the 4th generation. “Our existing education system is not demand-based and it’s also not capable of fulfilling the demand of industrial revolution of the fourth generation. So, there is a need to bring massive reforms in the existing education system to meet the demand of the present and the future,” he said.
The new Finance Minister said this on Thursday while exchanging pleasantries with the officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) at the Revenue Board office in city’s Segunbagicha area.
The NBR arranged this programme to bid farewell to the immediate past Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and welcome new Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Muhith also spoke on the occasion presided over by NBR Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.NBR members Kalipada Halder, Khondoker Aminur Rahman and BCS Tax Administration President Selim Afzal also spoke.
Speaking on the occasion, AHM Mustafa Kamal, commonly known as Lotus Kamal,
said that in the current education system, issues like artificial intelligence, cloud technology, block chain and nano-technology should have to be prioritized.Reiterating the present government’s stance to turn Bangladesh as a hunger and poverty-free country by 2030 and a prosperous developed country by 2041, he said for attaining such goal, Bangladesh needs to be a developed country like other 20 developed countries of the world.
“But, it’s not possible now to attain that goal with the present education system. So, we’ll have to bring massive reforms in this sector,” he added. Highlighting the tremendous successes of the Awami League government in different socio-economic fields over the last 10 years, Kamal mentioned that the country’s per capita income rose to $1,751 from $543, the overall size of GDP increased to $274 billion from $72 billion, while Bangladesh has also moved 17 slot up to bag the 41st slot during this period.
Praising highly the unprecedented leadership, working efficiency, wisdom and integrity of Muhith, his successor, Kamal said, “Abul Maal Abdul Muhith had said that he would leave a work plan for his successor. I believe that I will get such work plan from him (Muhith). I will move forward the works from where he (Muhith) left,” Assuring the new Finance Minister to extend his whole-hearted cooperation, Muhith said, “Although I’ve retired, but I’ve not taken retirement from my works. You’ll get my suggestions and opinions for the sake of the country whenever you need. I’ve already prepared a structure of budget for the next fiscal year. You can capitalize on that,” The former Finance Minister also suggested to utilize the university students to search for new taxpayers saying that the students could conduct survey. “The students can go from house to house and other cities…….the students then can make assessment of income and then the revenue officials can easily detect new taxpayers,” NBR Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan asked the revenue officials to discharge their duties with utmost honesty and sincerity to fulfill the target of revenue collection.
