Massive Rabi crops farming plan taken in dists

Extensive Rabi crops cultivation programmes have been taken up in different districts by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in the current season and bumper productions are expected by the farmers . Our correspondents and agencies report.
Sylhet Correspondent reports: The farmers of Sylhet Division have already been started cultivation of Rabi crops for about two weeks as the winter season is on.
About 75,000 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of different winter crops in the region. These include winter vegetables, mustard, wheat, potato, sweet potato, onion, ginger, chilli, cinnamon, gram, mung bean, Arhar, black gram, French bean, maize, ginger, turmeric, lentil, khesari, pea, linseed and sugarcane, informed a senior official at the divisional office of DAE yesterday.
Of the total, highest 46,208 hectares of land has been targeted for winter vegetables, he said, adding, potato would be cultivated in 7,000 hectares of land, mustard on 6200 hectares and wheat on 1517 hectares. The rest area would be used for the other crops. A good number of farmers are being involved more in raising the farming of some of these crops even in recent years where as they were not so interested, said the
Director of DAE, Sylhet divisional office, Krishna Chandra Hore said, “We are trying to provide the farmers technical and consultation assistances. A good number of demonstration plots of different crops are also being set up to encourage the common farmers.”
Saidur Rahman, a veteran farmer of Mollargaon union of Dakshin Surma Upazila, said, “We are getting involved with the non-traditional crops. Alongside adopting mechanised irrigation system and other modern methods we prefer diversified crop farming. Local agri officials also provide necessary suggestion and arrange training programme on the latest farming process.”
Monirampur(Jessore)Correspondent says: Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Monirampur has taken massive programme to cultivate of Robi crops in the upazila .
 Department of Agriculture sources said, Robi crops on 36 thousand 350 hectors of land including 28 thousand 775 hectors, Boro paddy and 2 thousand 250 hectors vegetables. Besides, Mosure on 2 thousand 500, wheat 500, mustard one thousand 250, Potato 300, Onion 200, Garlic 100. Khasari 70, Paper 45, Maize 150, Pea-grain 20, Sugar cane 20 hectors of land fix-up target for cultivation. Till November 18, the farmers cultivated 7 hectors of mustard. One thousand 280 hectors of Mosure 80 hectors of Pea-grain, 25 hectors of Potato, 30 hectors Khasari, 75 hectors Onion, 58 hectors Garlic, 45 hectors Paper, 15 hectors Sugar cane and one thousand 560 hectors vegetables.
 The source added Bro paddy cultivation preparation has been going on in-full swing but a vast tract of land of Bro paddy has been remain water logged till filing this report.
It was submerged due to stagnant rain water by the Bhabodaha sullies gate. The gate mouth has been silted for long.
BSS from Faridpur adds: An extensive Rabi crop cultivation programme has been taken up in the district by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in the current season.
DAE sources said, a total of 1, 55,118 hectares of land has been brought under Rabi crop cultivation program with the aim of producing 9,17,025 tonnes of food grain, winter vegetables, oil seed, spices and pulses.
Different varieties of Boro paddy will be cultivated on 35,225 hectares of land with the target of producing 13,913 tonnes of paddy while maize will be cultivated on 54 hectares to produce 347 tonnes.
Wheat will be cultivated on 26,630 hectares of land to produce 73,860 tonnes of wheat. Potato and sweet potato will be cultivated on 212 and 231 hectares respectively for producing 4,382 tonnes of potato and 3,800 tonnes of sweet potato. On the other hand, mustard will be cultivated on 9,760 hectares of land to produce 1000 tonnes of edible oil.
Ground nut will be cultivated on 4,196 hectares to produce 5,587 tonnes. Sugarcane will be cultivated on 7,344 hectares to produce 3,52,512 tonnes of sugarcane, the source said.
Various types of pulses including lentil will be cultivated on 14,642 hectares of land, grain on 296 hectares, mug on 1,172 hectares, kheshari on 11,500 hectares, motor on 840 hectares and mashkalai on 2,751 hectares with a target of producing 27,700 tonnes of protein substitute food. A total of 4,486 hectares of land has been brought under different kinds of vegetable to produce 87,200 tonnes of vegetable. Onion has been cultivated on 27,919 hectares to produce 1, 72,652 tonnes of onion and garlic on 3,552 hectares for producing 21,690 tonnes of garlic.
Spices including coriander and green chili will be cultivated on 6,412 hectares and 1,878 hectares to produce 7,876 and 2,217 tonnes respectively, the source added.
