Massive programmes to observe Amar Ekushey in dists

The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and the district administration here have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner on Friday.
The programmes include placing of floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting of national flags at half-mast atop all public and private buildings and probhat ferry (morning procession). There will be miniature national flags and coloured flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets in the city streets.
Quran Khwani and discussion at the Islamic Foundation office, art and literary competitions for school and college students at the Shishu Academy, and screening of documentary films on the Language Movement are other programmes of the day.
BSS from Rangpur rep[orts : The district administration has completed all necessary preparations to observe the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day-2014 in a befitting manner here on Friday next, officials said today.
The district administration, sociocultural and professional organisations, political parties, private bodies and educational institutions have chalked out programme to observe the Day with due solemnity, official sources said.
The day’s programmes will begin at one minute past midnight on February 21 when Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation Alhaj Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu and Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht and Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Humayun Kabir will place floral wreaths at the central Shaheed Miner to pay due respects to the Martyrs of Language Movement.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad and Police Super Abdur Razzaque along with officials of district and police administration will place floral wreaths there to be followed by the other government and non-government departments and organisations.
Leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, different political parties and professional organisations and people from all walks of life will also place wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar here to pay homage to the martyrs of great Language Movement.
The programmes also include hoisting of the national flag at half-mast atop all government, semi-government, private, commercial buildings and educational institutions, probhat ferries, decoration of the streets with miniature national flag and coloured-flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets.
The district administration in association with the Jatiyo Granthokendra has been arranging a weeklong Ekushey Book Fair-2014 from February 18 to 25 at Town Hall premises in the city. Besides, competitions for the children on drawing, essay writing, hand writing, rendering patriotic songs and sports competitions for the underprivileged children will be arranged along with screening of documentary films on the language movement.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: District and upazila administrations have drawn up the elaborate programmes to observe the Shaheed Dibas and International Mother Language Day on February 21 in a befitting manner and with due respect.
Office sources said to observe the day a preparatory meeting was held in the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) here on Sunday afternoon with DC M Ehsan-E-Elahi in the chair.
Government officials, freedom fighters, heads of the educational institutions, professionals, socio-cultural activists, political leaders and eminent citizens including the journalists of print and electronic media attended the meeting.
The programmes include placing floral wreaths at the local Shaheed Minar of the poura park and other Shaheed Minars in the upazila towns at zero hour on February 21, hoisting of national flag at half mast atop all the government, semi government, private and commercial buildings and all academic institutions.
The programmes also include offering of special prayers at the places of worship, holding of discussion meeting, cultural functions, art and essay writing competitions and arrangement of five-day long book fair in Independence Square of the town , office sources said.
Various sub-committees were also been formed to make all the programmes grand success in the district, said NDC Abu Sufian.
Recalling the contributions of the martyrs in language movement in 1952, the DC urged all to maintain the sanctity of the day seriously and properly through active participation in all the programmes undertaken by the administrations and other socio-cultural organizations.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Police Super Mofazzel Hossain, additional deputy commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique, additional district magistrate Kamal Uddin Biswas, senior vice president of district AL Sadrul Kabir Angur and district child affairs officer Rebeka Parvin.
