World Environment Day observed: Massive plantation to prevent environmental degradation stressed

The World Environment Day-2016 was observed in different districts through various programmes on Sunday. Our Correspondents and agencies report :
Narsingdi Correspondent says : A rally and discussion meeting on the occasion of the World Environment Day 2016 organised by District Administration and Department of Environment were held at local Shilpakala Academy on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi Abu Hena Morshed Zaman attended the meeting as chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Khandaker Nural Hoque in the chair.
Police super, Narsingdi Amena Begum (BPM) and Rector of Biam Zila school Prof Dr Dilafroj Begum were addressed the meeting as special guests
Senior Chemist, Department of Environment, Narsingdi, Mohammad Abdus Salam Sarker presented the welcome speech.
Among others president of Narsingdi Chamber of Commerce Abdullah Al- Mamun and President of district Textile Industries Fazlul Hoque addressed .
Speakers in the meeting discussed on the theme of the year “Go wild for Life” indicating the conservation of forestry in the country for maintaining ecological balance that will help the threat on environment. They called upon all concerned to create awareness about environment pollution for maintaining ecological balance. They also urged the young generation and students to plant more trees to prevent environmental degradation and raise awareness to save the environment from all sorts of pollutions.
Earlier a big colorful rally led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Nural Hoque was brought out from Deputy Commissioner’s office premises to Shilpakala Academy in the town.
A large number of people including district and upazila level officials, social workers NGO representatives ,students and journalists took part in the programmes.
Kulaura (Moulvibazar) Correspondent adds: Moulvibazar Paribesh Sangbadik Forum on Sunday called upon the government to take immediate steps to make the all forest including Lawacherra National Forest free from encroachers and pollution.
They made this demand during of a dialogue meeting in Moulvibazar Press Club Hall room in Moulvibazar district town on Sunday.
Environmentalists urged lack of regular maintenance and dredging gave rise where a section of people are setting up illegal structures.
In this programme Moulvibazar Municipal Mayor Fojlur Rahman attended as chief guest and key note presented by Moulvibazar Paribesh Sangbadik forum secretary Nurul Muhaimin Milton.
Mihir Kumar Dhar, DFO (wildlife) in Moulvibazar addressed as special guest and programme chair by Syed Mohosin Pervaj, president of Moulvibazar Paribesh Sangbadik forum.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: World Environment Day-2016 was observed here on Sunday as elsewhere in the country and the globe with a call to take up the issue of climate change seriously to protect nature and the planet.
This year’s theme of the day is: “Go Wild for Life”.
Marking the day, a discussion meeting organized by the district administration was held at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy of the town.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad addressed the function as the chief guest and superintendent of police (SP) M. Ashraful Islam and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon were present as the special guests.
With Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) M. Shamsul Azam in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Sadar UNO Ashraful Momin Khan and District Primary Education Officer AKM Amirul Islam while Assistant Commissioner M. Musabbiurl Islam was the moderator.
The speakers said Bangladesh is among the most vulnerable countries to climate change and sea level rise is a threat to environment of the world and its bio-diversity.
Environment has been facing a serious threat due to various natural and manmade catastrophes; they said adding that numerous species have already become extinct and many more are currently on the endangered list.
The overall rainfall has been decreasing over the years in inverse proportion to the greenhouse effect, leading to a disastrous climate change, they said. And as a result, rivers, canals and other water bodies are drying up fast, the speakers added.
DC M. Abdus Samad in his speeches underlined the need for creating awareness about wildlife and importance of protecting environment from further degradation for the sake of survival of all the living beings.
In this context, he urged all concerned particularly the young generations to plant more tress to prevent environmental degradation and take pragmatic measures to save the environment from all sorts of pollutions.
