Massive pest attack on T-Aman paddy fields has frustrated farmers in Kurigram as farmers are not getting good result spreading pesticides.
The pest attacked paddy fields before one month of harvesting. The worst affected areas area Rajarhat,Phulbari,Ulipur,Nageswari and Kurigram Sadar upazila. Mazra poka(insects) are damaging plants and it turns yellow colour.
A farmer Taslim Uddin of village Madhai under Rajarhat upazila said he cultivated three bighas of Sharna and BR-11 verity of paddy and expecting bumper production but it is being damaging day by day due to pest attacks.
According to the advice of filed workers he sprayed anti- insect but he found no good result. Farmer Kakil, 55 of village Gagla under Santoshpur union of Nageswari upazila also facing same problems.
Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer of Kurigram Sadar upazila Abdul Mazid admitted the fact and told this correspondent that we suggested the farmers to spray pesticides. Deputy Director of DAE Md. Shawkat Ali Sarkar said , our field workers are suggesting farmers all time.
Kurigram Khamarbari official sources said, a total of 1, 08,374 hectares of land have been brought under Aman cultivation with production target of 2, 71,271 MTs rice in the current year.
