The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive plan to cultivate mustard in all seven upazilas of the district during the current Robi season.
The DAE sources said, a total 20,316 hectare of land would be brought under mustard cultivation this year in the district with the production target of 24,988 tonnes of mustard.
DAE official said most of the farmers in the district have already sowed of mustard seed in their field.
Sub assistant agriculture officer of DAE M Emran Hossain said farmers have cultivated mustard seed on 16,100 hectares of land till December 2.
According to upazila wise break up target of land 4200 hectares of land in Sadar, 3300 hectares in Sarishabari, 3021 hectares in Melandaha, 4500 hectares in Islampur, 1900 hectares in Dewanganj, 1420 hectares in Madarganj upazila and 2020 hectares in Bakshiganj upazila.
Deputy Director (Seed Marketing) M Reazul Islam Tutul said two tonnes quality mustard seed of BARI-9 variety and 10 tonnes seed of BARRI-14 variety were allotted for selling among the farmers in the district this Robi season.
Besides, for producing quality seed in farmers level BADC also disbursed 1000-kg mustard seed of BARRI-9 variety and 400 kg mustard seed of BARRI- 17 variety among farmers through Agriculture Department.
Apart from this, BADC also disbursed 5 tonnes mustard seed of BARRI- 9 variety under rehabilitation programme and 6 tonnes mustard seed of BARRI-14 variety among farmers under the incentive programme of Agriculture Department, he added.
