“We will interrogate Sourav in the remand, if the court grants our remand plea. The hearing of both petitions of police remand and bail for the accused will be held Thursday (today),” the OC said.
Earlier, the police picked up Sourav with the help of locals after he demanded Tk 3, 00,000 as ransom from the family members of abducted Shishir Gagario, the OC added.
After being released, Shishir Gagario on Tuesday filed a case accusing BCL Tongi Government College unit’ Organizing Secretary Sourav, son of Golam Kibria, a resident of Morkun in Tongi.
Besides, 11 cohorts of Sourav were accused in the case filed with the Tongi police station on abduction charge.
Tongi College unit BCL president Kazi Manzur said Shams Kabir Sourav is the organising secretary of the college unit.
He said BCL would not take any responsibility of the crimes committed by anyone and disciplinary actions will be taken against Sourav if he is found guilty.
According to case documents, police caught Sourav from Tongi’s Pagar locality on Monday night when he kept the priest confined at a house there.
Shishir’s sister lives in a church in Pagar of Tongi. The abductors phoned Shishir using his sister’s cell phone and told him that his sister felt unwell and her condition was critical.
Shortly after getting the phone call, Shishir rushed to Pagar of Tongi by his motorbike to take his sister to hospital. But the abductors took him to a house and made him captive inside a room.
The abductors tried to snatch his motorbike, cell phone, money and other valuables. They also made phone calls to Shishir’s relatives demanding ransom of Tk 300,000. At one stage, Shishir started screaming in a bid to resist the abductors.
Hearing Shishir’s cry, the locals informed the matter to the nearby police station. The law enforcers rushed to the spot and rescued Shishir. The police also arrested Sourav from the house.
