The members of the law enforcing agencies have already started a massive hunt across the country for arrest of the killers of two foreigners in Dhaka and Rangpur within a span of one week.
At least three hundred people, including listed criminals and political activists, were arrested in last 24 hours, Police Headquarter sources said.
Police are conducting the drive to arrest the miscreants to maintain the law and order, according to the government’s instruction, they said.
In this situation, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) issued a red alert on the Benapole border on Tuesday for an indefinite period to stop the terrorists and criminals fleeing the country.
The BGB imposed restriction on the movement of the foreigners in the border area of Benapole, asking its members to keep vigil in this regard, said Lt Colonel Jahangir Hossain, Commanding Officer of Jessore BGB 26 Battalion.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the reporter in the capital on Tuesday that security had already been ratcheted up.
He said that they had increased vigilance by detectives in the diplomatic zone.
“We are taking special security measures in the areas and routes the foreigners visit for recreation and their social gatherings,” said the minister.
He referred to the arrest of five suspected members of banned militant group JMB in Chittagong with bombs, arms and ammunition.
“Drives are on to arrest militants and terrorists across the country, and militant activities are being monitored online,” he said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque claimed in a press briefing at his office on Tuesday morning that police did not find any IS member in the country.
“The current situation in the country is normal and several measures have been taken to strengthen the security, the IGP said.
Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella was shot dead in the capital’s diplomatic zone Gulshan on Sept 28, while Japanese Kunio Hoshi was killed in Rangpur on Oct 3. Around 2,24,000 foreigners have been living in Bangladesh.
