Vice Chairman of BNP and former Minisster Abdulllah al Noman said, from upgrading of Chittagong International Airport , establishment of the country’s first ever Veterinary University and construction of 3rd Karnaphuli bridge was implemented during the past regime of BNP .
He said, the then city Mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury opposed the construction of Karnaphuli Bridge through enforcing hartal in the city but BNP believes in development either in urban and rural areas.
He disclosed it while addressing the workers’ meeting of City Sramik Dal at Dewanhat area arranged by the Sramik Dal in support of BNP- backed Mayor nominee M Manzoor Alam as Chief Guest.
Noman as chief guest said participation in the city corporation election is a part of BNP’s ongoing movement against the facist govt and this election will reflect the people verdict against the govt. He also cautioned the govt agencies to refrain as neutral otherwise govt will be held for any consequences after the partisan election .
He also asked the party workers and leaders against any threat of any govt backed agencies and go forward fearlessly for establishment of rights of the people. He also advised to the local leaders and workers to shun differences during the election and to work unitedly in respective wards and to form strong and capable committee in the wards. In the meet, Mayor aspirant Manzoor Alam said he implemented the project work on equal area-wise distribution of budget and no favouritism and nepotism were shown to any wards.
He said in last five years duration of his his Mayorship, govt allocation is poor than desired , however from own corporation fund , he spent about Tk.900 crores which is more than than the expenditures of before 20 years. He also assured the city dwellers for resolving the prevailing waterlogging problems following the govt’s contribution to the corporation in due time. He also ensures the building the infrastructures of the city with the aim of turning the city as full-fledged commercial capital of the city.
Mayor aspirant seeks valuable votes of the city dwellers in Orange symbol for electing him as Mayor to completed his half-done work of the city. President of Divisional Sramik Dal MA Nazim presided over it .
