The candidates have been apprehending anomalies in the latest process of departmental promotion in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
They have also feared that the ongoing lobbing for the promotion may deprive the genuine and fittest candidates.
Top officials of ACC, however, have denied the allegation and claimed that there was no anomaly in the overall procedure.
Official sources said a number of ministers, MPs and top level government officials have phoned the ACC boss to consider their favourites during the promotion.
When contacted, ACC Chairman Md Badiuzzaman told The New Nation yesterday that there was no scope of irregularities in the promotion process.
He said, “The qualified officials will get consideration. No lobbing will be acceptable. The ACC considers seniority, performance at workplace and honesty. No one can influence us to give promotion to those who do not deserve it.”
“The unskilled officials are lobbing for promotion but there is no need to lobby for skilled men because we believe in quality,” ACC Chairman said admitting heavy lobbying by some officers for promotion.
An official seeking anonymity told this correspondent that ministers, MPs and other influential people in the country have asked the ACC to give promotion to their preferred officials.
ACC is always transparent. Only capable and skilled officials got promotion in the past. But this is for the first time that we fear about the promotion, the official said.
ACC sources said that the ACC had decided to give promotion to its 47 officials, including five directors and seven deputy directors, 23 assistant directors, 12 assistant inspectors.
The ACC authorities have already taken initiative to search for the officials for promotion. The officials, who do not deserve the promotion, are lobbing with the government’s high-ups.
Meetings were held on April 27 and May 5 with ACC Secretary Md Maksudul Hasan Khan in the chair. It is supposed to make decision in the ACC’s regular meeting to be held today. The ACC had decided to select the names of its 78 deputy directors as per the seniority on October 21 in 2014. On November 6, the ACC published the officials’ names.
