Protests and demonstrations against the ongoing rape incidents, sexual harassment and violence against women continued across the country for the third consecutive day on Tuesday demanding justice.
Demonstrations and forming the human chain over the recent rape incidents and torture against women have entered its third day in cities at Shahbagh and other parts of the capital. At Shahbagh, several hundred demonstrators started gathering in front of National Museum around 10am ignoring the rain, heat of the sun and the obstruction of the law enforcers. Many leftist student organizations, carrying the banner of “Anti-Rape Movement” started their protests, demanding to free the country from rape, sexual harassment and violence against women.
Protesters also demanded the resignation of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal for failing to prevent rape incidents across the country.
Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, led by Nurul Haque Nur, also staged a demonstration over there.
It is mentionable that a number of demonstrators led by former VP Nur started a procession carrying black flags towards the home ministry, police later obstructed them at Gulistan Zero Point around 1pm.
The protesters say that ruling party men are mostly involved with most of the rape cases-from Sylhet’s MC College to Noakhali’s Begumganj.
Protests were also reported from the city’s Dhanmondi, in front of Dhaka College, City College intersection, Motijheel, Kakrail and Uttara areas.
In Bagura, a demonstration was held in district town’s Satmatha area protesting the ongoing rape incidents, violence against women on the titled ‘Cholo jai Juddhe , Dharshoker biroddhe (Let us go to war, against the rapists) on Wednesday morning!
In Faridpur, 20 voluntary organisations formed a human chain in front of Faridpur Press Club and took oath against rape and violence against women.
Similar protests were also reported from Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Sylhet, Noakhali and Jahangirnagar University.
Waves of anti-rape demonstrations started across the country after a video footage of five men gang-raping a housewife, stripping her and capturing the scene of the incident in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali, went viral on social media recently.
The incident occurred in Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila at Joykrishnapur village of Eklashpur union on September 2.
Earlier, the housewife of Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila was molested by some local miscreants at Ward No. 9 of Eklashpur Union of the upazila last month and a video of the barbaric incident went viral on the internet.
 The incident sparked widespread outrage on social media.
Five youths, including Delwar and his associates Badal, Kalam and Abdur Rahim, molested the housewife on September 2 this year.
