Grenade attack on August 21: Mass gathering in Dhaka after Eid : Mohiuddin Chy

Awami League-led 14-party alliance here Sunday formed a 2-kilometers long human chain demanding expedition of the trial of grisly August 21 grenade attack on Awami League (AL) rally in 2004.
Former city mayor and President of Chittagong City Awami League ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, who led the human chain, announced to hold a mass-gathering of 50 thousand people at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka after Eid-ul-Azha to press home their demands.
He also declared to collect mass signatures from Chittagong and would submit those to the concerned authority.
Several thousands leaders and activists of different parties, front organizations of the alliance including Awami League , Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Workers’ Party, socio-cultural and literary groups, woman and youth defying the inclement weather joined the human chain stretching from Chittagong Press Club to Laldighi Maidan.
The areas stretching from Chittagong Press Club to Laldighi Maidan turned into a huge mass gathering on both sides of the streets as the leaders and activists of AL-led 14-Party Alliance carried banners and festoons and took part in the human chain.
Addressing the human chain, the speakers paid rich tributes to the memories of those who were killed in the attack and called for proper punishment to the perpetrators.
Demanding quick punishment to the perpetrators of the grenade attack, Chittagong city AL president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury said such incident would happen again and again if the culprits are not punished.
The killers of 1971 and 1975, the perpetrators of grenade attack on August 21, 2004, countrywide bomb blasts in 2005 and culprits of vandalism and atrocities in 2013 and 2015 are from the same group and faith, as they don’t want to build a prosperous and secular Bangladesh, he added.
14-party alliance leaders- Hasina Mohiuddin, Noim Uddin, Sunil Sarkar Amol Mitra, Chandan Dhar, Shafik Adnan, Jahar Lal Hazari, Advocate Abu Hanif, Advocate Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury, Jasim Uddin Babul, Amulya Barua, MR Azim and Nurul Azim Rony, among others, attended the human chain.
At least 24 people, including AL leader Ivy Rahman, were killed and several hundreds injured in the grenade attack on a public meeting of AL chief Sheikh Hasina in front of party office at Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004.
