Speakers at a daylong orientation meeting have stressed for creating awareness among the poor and distressed people at the grassroots level in availing the cost-free legal aid services of the government by to get justice.Aid-Comilla with financial cooperation of the Justice for All Programme of the United States Agency for International Development organised the orientation meeting under the “Massive Awareness to Avail Legal Aid Services of Government Institution Project” at Taraganj upazila parishad auditorium on Thursday.
Members of Kursha and Ekorchali Union Legal Aid Committees participated in the orientation course jointly coordinated and moderated by Filed Officers of the project Harun Ar Rashid Sanchoy Kumar sparkler and Suraiya Begum.
Taraganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Golam Mowla attended the meeting as the chief guest with Executive Director of Said Comilla Rokeya Begum Shefali in the chair.
Project Manager of the ‘Massive Awareness to Avail Legal Aid Services of Government Institution Project’ Jafar Ullah Sabu, Kursha union chairman Shahinur Islam Marshal and Ekorchali union chairman Mossarraf Hossain Pramanik addressed as special guests.
District Legal Aid Officer and Senior Assistant Judge Zannatul Lilifa Akhter Jahan delivered keynote presentation narrating goals and objectives of the project and ongoing activities in the district.
The speakers said National Legal Aid Services Organisation of the Justice Division under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has been implementing the Government’s Legal Aid Project to provide cost-free legal aid to the poor of the country.
They narrated the ongoing process of mass publicity on providing legal aid to the poor and distressed people, who are unable to avail legal services for financial constraints, for ensuring justice for them through appointing lawyers on behalf of them.
They urged the union parishad chairmen and members for presenting the government’s legal aid service programmes with importance to enhance public awareness in reaching those to the poor and distressed people at the grassroots to ensure justice for them.
They also put emphasis on ensuring proper coordination among the concerned officials, departments, institutions and organisations in conducting the project activities at union levels to make the legal aid services programme successful.
