Mass awareness on early preparedness to reduce disaster risks underscored

Speakers at a function underscored the need for creating awareness to the people of disaster prone areas about early preparedness in a bid to reduce risks of natural calamities.
“As flood has become one of the natural calamities in Gaibandha district and visits here every year creating untold sufferings to the people, an emphasis should be given to address it properly avoiding huge losses of properties through cordial and united efforts of all”, they said.
They made the comments on Tuesday while addressing an emergency meeting of Gaibandha district disaster management committee jointly organized by district administration and district relief and disaster rehabilitation office at the conference room of District Collectorate Building in Gaibandha.
In the meeting, the district level officials who work at pre, during and post period of disaster to mitigate the sufferings of the people and to save the lives of the domestic animals and poultry birds presented their doings and strategies about floods elaborately.
With Deputy Commissioner (DC) Goutam Chandra Pal in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by superintendent of police (SP) Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin and Executive Engineer of BWDB Mahbubur Rahman.
