Mass awareness for AIDS-free BD stressed

Narsingdi Correspondent :Speakers at a discussion here on Monday underlined the importance of creating mass awareness among the people to follow the religious ethics and social values in making a HIV/AIDS free Bangladesh.They said government, NGOs and members of the civil society should gear up campaign for preventing the formidable threat of the deadly disease in the society.They were addressing the discussion organized by District Civil Surgeon office in observance of the World AIDS Day-2014 at the Zilla hospital with civil surgeon of Narsingdi Dr Putul Roy in the chair.Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Suriya Begum, Additional Police Super Mokhlesur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Narsingdi unit Dr Golam Dostagir, Resident Medical officer of Narsingdi Zilla Hospital Dr Mizanur Rahman, Medicine consultant Dr Mostafa Kamal BSS correspondent Mohammad Abu Taher and BRAC district representative Praval Saha, among others, spoke on the occasion.Suriya Begum said, the people can protect themselves from AIDS by following religious ethics and social values. She said the government is trying to bring down the prevalence of AIDS to Zero level in the country.Civil Surgeon Dr Putul Roy narrated the deadly disease of HIV/AIDS and its present scenario at the national and global levels.Earlier, a colourful procession, led by Civil Surgeon Dr Putul Roy, was brought out from Civil Surgeon office and paraded the main roads of the town with banners, posters and placards motivating people about the deadly disease.
