‘Mass-awareness can help reduce road accident’

Creating mass awareness and strict enforcement of traffic rules is urgent to reduce road accident that claimed around 4,000 lives and injured over 5,000 every year in the country.
Speakers made this observation while addressing a views exchange meeting on “The role of local level for road safety” in Narsingdi organised by BRAC Advocacy for Social change and Road Safety programme with the cooperation of district police at Police Super office conference room recently.
They also viewed that road accident could have been reduced substantially if the authorities concerned discharged duties properly while providing driving licenses and fitness certificates.
If the drivers, helpers, members of the law enforcement agencies and pedestrians obey the traffic rules properly in discharging their duties from the respected sides many road accidents could have been avoided, they opined.
A total of 50 people including police officers, leaders of transport workers, leaders of transport owners association, journalists and human activities were present in the meeting.
