Uneasy situation dominates the election campaign just before the 11th national election of the country and even after deployment the Army on 24 December. Three hundred more injured including journalists as well as two candidates of BNP as Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and Major Akteruzamman and several media activists in separate clashes in the country on Tuesday.
In Dhaka (Nawabganj), at least 12 journalists were injured and 16 vehicles vandalized by unidentified miscreants when they were on duty to cover news in Nawabganj of the district on Munday night.
A gang of 30 attackers suddenly entered the guest house and continued attacking the journalists from private television channel Jamuna and its sister concern Bangla daily newspaper Jugantor around 10:30pm, Jugantor senior reporter Sirajul Islam told the media. All of them covered their faces with mask.
A total of 40 journalists and drivers of Jamuna Television and Jugantor boarded Shamim Guest House at Kolakopa Bandura in Nawabganj to cover electioneering of the upcoming 11th national elections for the Dhaka-1 constituency.
In ?Mymensingh, at least 50 persons were injured in a clash between BNP and Awami League at the Pouro bus stand of the district town on Tuesday afternoon. Sources said that the clash began when AL leaders and workers intercepted the Oikya Front procession led by Mymensingh-11 candidate Fakhar Uddin Bachchu.
In Bagerhat, at least 25 persons including the candidate for Bagerhat-3 Jamaat leader add. Abdul Wadud was injured in a election rally by ruling party on thesday evening of the district.
In Shirajganj, at least 15 opposition men injured and several vehicles vandalized in a attack by ruling party Awami League when BNP candidate Abdul Mannan Talukder was in campaign in the district.
In Kishoreganj, at least 20 opposition men including BNP candidate Major Akteruzamman were injured when ruling party men attacked them in a electioneering of the district.
In Manikganj-2 constituency BNP candidate Mianul Islam Khan Shanta claimed that Awami League activists attacked his motorcade and vandalized five more vehicles during electioneering at Harirampur Upazila on Tuesday.
The BNP candidate blamed the supporters of Awami League aspirant Momotaj Begum of obstructing his campaign, attacking his supporters and vandalising vehicles.
In Chattogram, at least three people suffered burn injuries in a petrol bomb attack on an Awami League campaign in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram on Tuesday.
Chattogram-4 AL candidate Didarul Alam said that miscreants hurled a petrol bomb when he was campaigning at Madam Bibirhat around 12:30pm.
Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost ASI Alauddin Talukdar said four people were admitted to the hospital. Among them, three suffered burn injuries.
In Lakshmipur, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rob alleged that ruling party attacked our campaign and injured several men on Tuesday.
It is noted that on Munday BNP alleged that activists of Awami League attacked their election rally of its Shariatpur-3 (Gosairhat-Damudya-Bhedarganj) candidate Nuruddin Apu and made injured 30 including Apu.
In this circumstances, BNP on Tuesday voiced frustration over the ‘growing’ incidents of violence across the country, even after the army deployment.
Speaking at a Press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan Central Office, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, their party leaders and activists were attacked by ruling party men and police in 28 constituencies, injuring over a hundred people, including 19 candidates, on Monday.
He alleged that the situation has turned so worse that police have started spraying bullets on opposition leaders and activists. “Police used to charge batons in the past and hardly used bullet, but now they are firing shots on the leaders and activists of Sheaf of Paddy’ instead of charging batons.”
