The trend of hiring foreign coaches in Bangladesh cricket has been going on for a long time before getting Test status. In the 21 years of playing in the Test arena, the coaches of the country have not been seen in the main responsibility except for performing some part-time duties. Mashrafe has no objection to foreign coaches. On Monday night, he raised his finger on his personal Facebook page about the coach recruitment process.
“In the interview which is conducted during the appointment of the coach, is he actually questioned? Or is he asked any questions at all? Or do they just ask him, ‘What do you want to do?’ Maybe then he highlights some points. When you get something new from there, you may think, ‘Great coach, what a beautiful plan, there is no coach like this.” He said.
He has also mentioned in his status, that, “It simply came to our notice then. Because, we always look for high profile coaches to convince people, which is of no use later.” He added, Mashrafe also expressed his opinion on which place should be emphasized while appointing a coach.
“We need someone who follows our cricket or studies with our maximum players and sits for interviews (such coaches). Most importantly, they should bring a minimum idea about our culture. Otherwise, he will not understand how long it takes to create a Shakib (al Hasan), Tamim (Iqbal), Mushfiq (Rahim), or Riyad (Mahmudullah), or what their contribution was in the past, even how Mustafiz (Rahman) came up. “
